As this week would have been John Peel's 66th birthday I thought it might be good to post some birthday related sessions.
First up then it's eternal Peel favorites The Wedding Present. This set was recorded as part of a special night at Subterranea in London to celebrate John Peel's 50th birthday.
Other bands on the bill that night included The House of Love and of course The Fall.
I think The Wedding Present set was actually longer but this was all that was broadcast on the radio. If anybody has the full set please let me know.
David Gedge - Guitar/Vocals
Pete Solowka - Guitar
Keith Gregory - Bass
Simon Smith - Drums
1. Crushed
2. Kennedy
3. Thanks!
4. Bewitched
5. Granadaland

I was there! Working on the lower rungs of the indie music business at the time and in a fit of magnanimity tickets for the Peel bash were bought for some of the employees. Unfortunately the excitement of seeing three of my favourite bands at the time (The Wedding Present, House of Love and especially The Fall) went a little to my head and a bit too much drink was consumed so that I watched the performances alone standing right in front of the stage while everyone else stood in the shadows talking. Hence the sparse applause on the recordings, the odd shout is probably me.
Great session, thanks !
It's missing a track...I assume this is the incomplete set that was on dime a while back. The first track was What Have I Said Now? followed by Crushed
Trust you Martin 'completist' Payne Smith :-)
